Best Cold Cream in Pakistan
Cold cream is one of the oldest formulations in cosmetics and it is still in most Pakistani households, usually appearing in November and disappearing in March. It works — the basic chemistry of an oil-and-water emulsion with a heavy occlusive is genuinely effective against winter dryness. What it is not is a modern moisturiser, and knowing what the best cold cream in Pakistan does well and what it does badly will save you from using it in the two situations where it causes problems.
What cold cream actually is
The original formulation is an emulsion of oil, water, beeswax and borax. Modern versions substitute mineral oil or petrolatum for some of the plant oils and add glycerin.
The name comes from the cooling sensation as the water evaporates off the skin, leaving the oil phase behind. That residual oil layer is the whole mechanism: it is an occlusive film that slows water loss for hours.
That makes it genuinely good at three things — protecting dry skin against cold air, softening rough patches, and removing makeup, which it does very well because oil dissolves oil.
What it does well
Winter body dryness, particularly on shins, elbows, knees and hands. The occlusive film is exactly what those areas need.
Makeup removal. As a first cleansing step it lifts sunscreen and long-wear makeup more effectively than most micellar waters, provided you follow with a proper wash.
Protection against wind and cold, which is why it works well on hands and on children’s cheeks in northern winters.
Value. It is among the cheapest effective occlusives available anywhere.
Where it causes problems
On acne-prone or oily facial skin. Cold cream is heavy and the classic formulations are comedogenic. Used nightly on a face that breaks out, it will make things worse, and a great many people here use it exactly that way because it is what was in the house.
As a sole moisturiser. It seals, but it delivers very little. An occlusive over dry, unhydrated skin traps nothing useful. Apply it over a damp body or over a humectant lotion, not onto dry skin as the only step.
In summer. Heavy occlusives in Karachi humidity feel unpleasant and can cause congestion on the chest and back.
Left on without cleansing after makeup removal. The residue needs a second wash.

Using it sensibly
On the body, not the face, unless your facial skin is genuinely dry and not acne-prone.
Over damp skin, within sixty seconds of towelling off, or over a hydrating lotion.
At night rather than under makeup. It is too heavy as a day base.
A thin layer. More does not seal better; it just transfers onto clothes.
As a makeup remover, massage into dry skin, then remove with a cloth and follow with your normal cleanser.
One safety note
Cold cream itself is benign, but this is a category where unbranded and loosely regulated products circulate locally, particularly the whitening variants sold in the same section of the market.
Do not buy any cream making skin-lightening claims from an unverified source. Products containing mercury and unregulated hydroquinone are still sold here, and they cause lasting damage. A plain cold cream from a known manufacturer is a sensible purchase. A tub promising a fairer complexion in two weeks is not.
