Body Wash for Dry Skin
Dry skin has fewer lipids to lose, and a body wash is the step in your routine most capable of taking them. The barrier is built from ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids, and a sulphate-heavy wash removes them faster than the skin replaces them — which is why so many people with dry skin find their lotion stops working in winter when the real problem started in the shower. A good body wash for dry skin cleans without stripping, and that is almost entirely a surfactant question.
The surfactant decides everything
Check the first four ingredients. That tells you more than the entire front label.
Harsh: sodium lauryl sulphate, and to a lesser degree sodium laureth sulphate. They produce dense lather and remove more lipid than dry skin can afford.
Mild: cocamidopropyl betaine, sodium cocoyl isethionate, disodium cocoyl glutamate, decyl glucoside, coco glucoside. These clean effectively at a fraction of the barrier cost.
Lather is not cleaning power. Mild surfactants foam less, and people read that as weakness. It is a cosmetic difference, not a performance one.
pH matters too. Skin sits around 5.5. A wash well above that disrupts the acid mantle and leaves skin tight regardless of what else is in the bottle.
What else to look for
Cream, milk and oil textures rather than clear gels. These clean more gently and leave a thin comfortable film.
Glycerin high in the list.
Ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids, which replace what is being lost rather than only avoiding taking it. Worth paying for if dryness is persistent.
Shea butter, squalane and plant oils for emollience.
Colloidal oatmeal if the skin is itchy as well as dry.
Fragrance-free, because dry and compromised skin reacts to fragrance far more readily.

The habits that matter more than the product
This is where most of the result comes from, and all of it is free.
Lukewarm water, never hot. The single most damaging habit of a Pakistani winter and the most tempting one. Hot water strips lipids faster than any surfactant, and the relief lasts ten minutes against hours of tightness afterwards.
Shorter showers. Ten minutes removes noticeably more than five.
Once daily, unless you have genuinely sweated. Two showers a day with any wash is more than dry skin can take.
Skip the loofah. Physical scrubbing on dry skin creates micro-damage and more flaking. A hand or a soft cloth is enough.
Wash where it matters — underarms, groin, feet, and anywhere that actually gets dirty. Shins and forearms rarely need a surfactant at all.
Moisturise within sixty seconds of towelling off, while skin is still damp. This does more than any upgrade in wash, and it is the step most people rush.
The local factors
Hard water across Lahore, Karachi and most borewell supply leaves mineral deposit that disrupts the barrier and leaves skin tight no matter what you wash with. If a good routine is not working, that is worth investigating before upgrading products.
Northern winters — Islamabad, Peshawar, Murree and above — pull moisture continuously, and a cream wash through those months is a reasonable seasonal switch.
Traditional alkaline bar soap, still the household default in many homes, runs at pH 9 or 10 and strips aggressively. Switching away from it is often the single biggest improvement available to dry skin here.
If skin is cracking, bleeding or intensely itchy rather than simply dry, that may be eczema and it needs a doctor rather than a gentler wash.
