Dark Circle Serum
A dark circle serum and an eye cream carry the same actives in different vehicles, and the difference matters more than it sounds. A serum is water-based, lighter, faster-absorbing and typically carries higher active concentrations because there is less emollient taking up space in the formula. A cream is richer, seals better, and suits drier skin. Which you need depends on your skin type and on whether you intend to layer them.
Serum or cream
Serum. Water-based, absorbs in seconds, higher active concentration, no occlusive seal. Best on normal to oily skin, in hot weather, and under makeup where a cream would cause products to slide.
Cream. Oil-in-water emulsion, slower absorbing, lower active concentration, seals moisture in. Best on dry or mature skin and through a cold northern winter.
Both, layered. Serum first on clean skin, cream over it once absorbed. This is the arrangement that gets the most out of the actives, because the serum delivers and the cream holds. For anyone serious about treating pigmentation it is the better routine.
The practical consequence: if your under-eye is dry and crepey as well as dark, a serum alone will not be enough. If it is oily or you apply makeup over it, a cream alone will feel heavy.
The actives, and realistic expectations
Niacinamide at 2–5% reduces pigment transfer and supports the barrier. The most reliable and the best tolerated.
Vitamin C derivatives, in stable forms rather than pure L-ascorbic acid, which stings on eye skin.
Caffeine constricts surface vessels and reduces the blue tint of vascular circles. The effect is temporary and genuine — it is why so many eye serums feel like they work immediately.
Peptides support barrier function and collagen signalling. Modest, slow, well tolerated.
Azelaic acid and tranexamic acid inhibit melanin production directly.
Hyaluronic acid hydrates, which plumps the area slightly and softens the shadow from a hollow. Cosmetic rather than corrective, and the most immediate effect in the category.
If swelling rather than colour is part of the picture, an eye cream for puffy eyes works on a different mechanism entirely. If dryness and fine lines are part of the picture, an under eye cream is the broader category. All of it sits within the full Buy Eye Serums in Pakistan collection.
Why serums feel like they work faster
Two reasons, and both are worth understanding before you judge a product.
Caffeine and hydration act within minutes. Vessels constrict, tissue plumps, and the area looks visibly better. That effect is real and it is temporary — it wears off through the day and returns with the next application.
Pigment correction takes eight to twelve weeks. Melanin sits in cells that turn over slowly, and nothing accelerates that meaningfully.
So a serum that looks impressive on day one may be doing nothing structural, and one that seems to do nothing for a month may be working exactly as intended. Judge at twelve weeks, on photographs taken in the same light.
Applying it
On clean, slightly damp skin, before any cream.
A grain-sized amount for both eyes. Serums spread further than creams and most people use three times too much.
Pat with the ring finger along the orbital bone, not against the lash line.
Let it absorb fully before applying cream or makeup over it.
Morning and night.
Sunscreen every morning, which is the step that decides whether the pigment work holds. UV drives periorbital pigmentation directly, and skipping it around the eye while treating everywhere else is the commonest reason under-eye darkness does not improve.
Store it out of heat. Vitamin C derivatives and peptides degrade, and a serum left on a sunlit dressing table through a Pakistani summer loses potency within months.
